Series 3, the Balkans

It's commonly accepted that by the time the British Army went to Bosnia there were no Series 3 Land Rovers left in the pool.  Enter Italeri with their retooled soft top Series 3 109"... with Balkans markings.  Italeri were criticised in some circles for what appeared to be a pretty big mistake.
It wasn't a mistake...

Italeri box art...

It shows an IFOR Land Rover... and if you note the number plate... then look at this photo...

Same Land Rover... so that put those complaints to sleep.
With that in mind I decided that I would build this vehicle as depicted.  I used the Italeri kit with Accurate Armour wheels and a set of Firing Line etched brass details and metal controls.

Starting to retexture the canopy...

The chassis showing the Tamiya suspension, axles, and petrol tanks... plus the Firing Line gear and other sticks...

Canopy final textures...

Lights drilled out so I can use the spare lights from a Hobby Boss WOLF kit...

Clear lights tinted with Tamiya Clear Red and Clear Orange...

First coat of paint...

Black and the canopy with some paint...

Weathered, varnished and with the lights fitted...
Decals are a mix of kit-supplied markings and those from the Balkans Land Rover set by Bison.

Humbrol wash for green vehicles...

Dulled down...

I still have the interior to complete, the glazing added and a cargo to fill out the back half, as the see-through effect is really very distracting.
